- Janet GI've stay here for years, in the same room, when I volunteer for the Iditarod in March. The main thing is; its warm. I love the bed, very comfortable. I've never had bed bugs. The sheets and towels are clean. The whole building is old; built in the 1930's or 40's. There are very old artifacts in the lobby. It 's rough. It needs a good cleaning, new paint and carpeting, but my needs are met. It holds much history and is the heart of Nome. It stands right at the Iditarod Finish Line at the center of town. You can stay down the road at the fancy new hotel, but for a real Alaskan experience, stay at the Nugget. The prices at both Hotels are high. But not when you consider where you are and how hard it is to maintain the place and keep it stocked. The Staff is friendly and helpful. Spend some time talking to Ken at the front desk on the night shift. He is extremely knowledgeable about Nome history, local culture and customs. The attached Café is good.
